The Eureka Hunt

Really awesome essay about the insight process, which is so integral in puzzle solving. It touches on two of my favorites: The word association puzzle, and sudden great ideas coming to you while in the shower. :)

This link is just to the abstract. To get the full article, you’ll have to go out in the real world and buy the July 28, 2008 hardcopy, but well worth the effort.

New ARG Novel: "This Is Not a Game"

Posted on 28th July 2008 in Uncategorized

Maureen McHugh tells me that Walter Jon Williams is coming out with a new novel based around Alternate Reality Games: This Is Not a Game (amazing to see that phrase continuing to get so much mileage after showing up in a certain movie trailer in 2001, heh).

For those of you who don’t know him, Williams is a fantastic, Hugo Award-winning sci-fi writer, who was also one of the writers for Last Call Poker (in fact he wrote pretty extensively about that experience here).

Anyway, this new novel is touted to be a thriller, so I’m pretty pumped about getting my hands on it once it’s released (2009), especially with Walter Jon’s unique experience actually writing an ARG.

If you want to check out some of Williams’ work, download a free excerpt from his latest novel, Implied Spaces.
