Wow. Thanks for pointing me to that thread. I vaguely recall people discussing the validity of the site, but don't remember any sort of conclusion, just doubt. I kinda chalked it up to most everything else I find online - reader beware :)

Even though it's a hoax or "art project", I'm glad that I had come across it. It did make me think and remember, so for better or worse, it had meaning. The only thing that really troubles me is that they may have "disturbed the scene" when creating their photos for effect. Not only is the effect far greater when it's the real thing, but there's just something about the place that's like a modern archeological dig and things should be left as they are.

Seriously, when or where else do we have a complete tangible "snapshot" of life as it was for an entire modern society. It's a time capsule like none other. Unfortunately it came about because of such a tragedy.

Hmm, yeah, I'm finding lots of info debunking this whole thing as a hoax at worst, art project at best. Check this post.

Woah, really? But but but....what about the videos that are abviously taken from the back of a motorcycle?? You've made me really curious, now.

I wonder if future generations may come up with a way to clean up radiation contamination? Is this even possible?? I'd hate to think that these areas are indeed unfit for human life for the next 150,000 years.

The motorcycle trip through Chernobyl is actually an art project. It's fiction. You can't drive a motorcycle in the Zone. But the woman who made the website actually did go to Chernobyl and take a tour there, which you can do, and all the photos of Chernobyl are real.

A couple years ago, this website made the rounds. It's a sort of photo journal of a motorcyle trip in and around the area. I think that was the first I'd seen much mentioned about Chernobyl in years (it hit metafilter and several other community sites that I check in on) and it was probably the last time I really thought this much about it. Thanks for this... both for reminding me and for sharing the story of your flight.
